Home Business Blues: Tips to Get Your Mojo Back
Life is full of challenges. And being a business owner is tough. Virtual Assistants are business owners who have a lot of responsibilities and worries. You worry about keeping clients happy. You worry about producing quality work and bringing in new clients. You may wonder how to increase traffic to your business website. You may fear losing clients.
As business owners, we are also individuals. Your personal problems might also affect your business performance. Perhaps, a family member had said or done something hurtful. Maybe, you lost a loved one. Perhaps you feel that you are not where you want to be in life.
All of us are bound to feel the doldrums at one point or another in our lives. But what do we do when we feel this way? How do we get our spirts up when they’re down? How do we manage to get our motivation back?
Below we have complied a list of ways that you can feel inspired when you down.
Tip #1: Practice Gratitude
There are plenty of things we can be grateful for in life. We often take things for granted. Do you have food on the table? Do you have a place to live? Are you in good health? Do you have awesome family or friends?
Take out a sheet of paper and write down what you’re grateful for in life. There is always someone somewhere who would wish to be in the position you are right now.
Tip #2: Set Practical Goals
We are all bound to feel that our business is not growing fast enough. For this reason, it’s important you set realistic goals.
Grab a pencil and paper. Write out your goals for this month. Next, write out the actionable steps that you’re going to take to achieve those goals. By writing these goals down while actively working towards realizing them, you’ll feel less down and more motivated.
Tip #3: Find a Mentor
Try to find someone who has successfully achieved that goal you’re aiming to accomplish. Seek out their council and advice.
Mentors have often faced many of the challenges you’re going through and they can offer you encouragement when you are going through a rough time. Having an active mentor in your life can give you motivation and inspiration. They can give you useful advice and even connections that will assist you in achieving your goals. If you can’t seem to reach someone that fits your exact profile, than seek out a person who is successful and try to connect with them.
Tip #4: Get Rid of Negative Thoughts
According to research we have somewhere between 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. And somewhere between 80 percent of them are negative. Start paying close attention to your thoughts. Negative self-talk are often the cause of our bad moods.
Remember you become what you think. Negative thoughts are the gateway for negative moods and actions. Anytime a negative thought pops into your mind replace it with thoughts and words of positivity.
Tip #5: Reward Yourself
Did you reach your set goals for the week? Were you extra productive? If so, it’s important to reward yourself for your small success.
By giving yourself rewards, it will allow you to do more of the right things. Rewarding yourself is also a proven scientific method of creating good habits. Consider this quote about rewards from Tony Robinson: “Your brain elicits positive emotions, leading to the realization that your efforts result in a positive reward. By doing this continuously, your brain will start to link pleasure to accomplishing the task or objective and move towards it in the future. Here are some things you can do to reward yourself:
Reading a book
Enjoy quiet time
Take a relaxing bath
Get a manicure or pedicure
Buy yourself a small gift
Go for a girls or boys night out
Watch your favorite program or movie
Take a trip
Tip #6: Give Yourself a Break
It’s important to take a break from your work every once in a while. Try setting aside time for a break period each day. It can be for a few minutes or perhaps an hour. Taking a break will allow your mind to relax and your body to rejuvenate. You can even consider taking a nice stroll outside to experience the fresh air. You can even try drinking water or meditating for 5 minutes.
The important thing is to give yourself time to breathe so that you can give your mind and body a chance to rejuvenate so that you can concentrate effectively throughout the day.
Tip #7: Change your Work Environment
In our virtual assistant jobs we sometimes have the tendency to get restless because we are sitting at the desk for hours. If you find yourself growing tired of your work environment then try doing enjoyable activities while you are working. I don’t mean activities that require you to go away from your desk. I mean things that you can do at your desk. For example, perhaps, you enjoy drinking green tea or listening to music. Then have green tea present at your desk or listen to your favorite music. By doing this, it will make your work more pleasant.
Here’s scientific proof as to why this method works: Dopamine is the chemical that is associated with the reward system in the brain. You trigger dopamine by doing a task that you find pleasurable. If you do small pleasurable activities while working you will be able to accomplish more.
So, if you are restless while at work, try doing an activity you enjoy while working.
Tip #8: Alter your Work Environment
Try posting your written goals around your work environment. Get creative. You can picture frame your goals or you can even write your goals on your calendar. Looking at your goals while working, will not only allow you to stay motivated but also act as a positive and inspirational trigger.
You can even post inspirational or motivational quotes around your work area. You can find daily inspirational quotes at BrainyQuote.com.
So if you find yourself getting the business blues, try a few of the steps above. You might just find yourself feeling a little better.
