How To Avoid Work at Home Scams

Are you tired of searching through all the work at home jobs only to find out they are scams, charge a fee or are a home biz opportunity? Wouldn't you like to have access to jobs that have been screened and do not charge a fee and are not MLM's, home biz opps or assembly jobs?

Well, you are not alone. There are thousands of scams out there and believe me, we know. We have been tracking down legitimate jobs on the Internet for over 7 years now and it is not easy. This company was actually started in February of 1999 because of all the fraudulent sites out there trying to scam people. Now I am happy to say we know what to look for and are happy to share the advice.

The reason these unscrupulous people prey on people like you and me is our basic need to work at home and get out of the corporate rat race. We will share with you a few basics to weed out these false opportunities from the real ones.

First off, you want to look for jobs that ask you to send a resume. Usually, companies who just ask you to email them are trying to just get your email address so they can bombard you with some type of work at home scheme or home business opportunity. Secondly, companies that are promising 'pie-in-the-sky earnings are almost always a home biz opp or mlm type company and are only seeking to get you to join their business.

Below are some tips for recognizing when a work at home job is NOT legitimate.

  • DATA ENTRY - EARN 1000.-2000. PER WEEK! - These come in two different categories. You are either typing ads for them and it is a pyramid scheme. Your 'data entry job' turns out to be typing ads to get other people just like you to do the same. The other is that they claim to sell you a disk stating that they have employers who are looking for data entry personnel and it only turns out to be a disk with no employment opportunities in sight! Whenever it states that you can make that kind of money - beware! beware! beware!
  • ENVELOPE STUFFING SCAMS - These are the jobs where they say you can make anywhere from 2-4.00 an envelope. The trouble with these jobs is that you will be sending out the same flyer you received. You will also have to run ads asking for people to send the 2-4.00 in a SASE to you. This is your 2-4.00 per envelope! There are legitimate home mailing programs out there but very few. It would be better for you to join a good affiliate program.
  • PYRAMID SCHEMES - These are generally the ones that are emailed to you that say 'As Seen On TV' and other nonsense. They are generally asking you to send money in for some report or reports and then pay for mass (spam) emailing to try and get others to do the same. Don't fall for it or waste your time.
  • HOME ASSEMBLY/CRAFTS - These companies are usually looking for someone 'supposedly' to assemble or make crafts for their company. They will usually require a fee for materials and make you purchase various equipment. What happens is after this enormous expense on your behalf, you receive instructions that are hard to understand and nearly impossible to comply with. Usually, after sending in the completed materials, they will reject your work and you will then not be paid for it. There are a few companies out there that actually do hire legitimate home assembly personnel but they are few and far between. We will occasionally feature such a legitimate employer but only if they do not charge a fee.
  • MEDICAL BILLING SCAMS -This job typically goes like this - you see an ad in the newspaper or on the Internet for a medical billing job. After applying, they then ask you to invest anywhere from 50. - 500.00 for software, manuals and equipment to start your own medical billing company. While real medical billing and medical transcription work at home jobs are on the rise, they do not charge a fee to start. If you are interested in pursuing this type of career, there are many accredited schools that will train you for this type of position!

A final word of caution: Be careful when you are out there on the Internet looking for a real work at home job. These scammers are getting very sneaky. Alot of the jobs they are now posting can even read like a real job. Recently, we have seen them come up with all types of schemes. Some are very hard to tell if they are legit or not. So please be careful.
